Day 98 - Fab-egg-ulous

Happy Easter to all who celebrate!

This evening was filled with family fun!
We all dyed Easter Eggs and created The Egg Family: a wizard, a king, a bunny, a viking, a construction worker and a cowboy.
(decorating idea, compliments of Family Fun Magazine, April 2012)

It was truly Fab-egg-ulous!

Day 97 - Slug Bug

Do you remember "Slug Bug"?   (Or, perhaps, you called it "Punch Buggy")

You know the game...as you are driving down the street with friends, the first person who see a VW Beetle, yells "SLUG BUG" and promptly punches the other person in the car.

I remember playing it in high school and beyond.

And, of course, there was a time, when the "old" bugs were no longer made (in 1978), and it was got more and more difficult to play.  But, fortunately, VW recreated the Bettle (in 1998), and soon the punches resumed (and of course, the older bettles were worth two punches).

One day, when playing "Slug Bug" with friends, I wondered...

If I owned a VW Bettle,
would I see a lot more people punching each other?

So, today I am curious...what do you think?
Do VW owners see more violence, than other car owners?

Just wondering.

Day 96 - So I write...

One of the main reason why I decided to start a blog was because I had often said "in my perfect world, I would be a writer" and I figured that if I truly wanted that, then I should, well, WRITE!

So I write.

Some days I share my heart.
And other days that is hard to do.
Some days I love what I have written.
And others days I do not feel that impassioned.
Some days it is a struggle to figure out what I really want to say.
And other days my words appear, almost magically.
Some days I am inspired.
And other days I am not.

But, what I know is that, for me, writing...
clarifies
soothes
energizes
inspires
discombobulates
renews
pleases
comforts
fulfills
unclogs
empowers
relieves
encourages
atones
galvanizes
cheers
                                 ME!

And so, I write.

Day 95 - The Ten Minute Sweep

There is STUFF everywhere in my house!

Books, here.  Magazines there.  School papers in piles - multiple piles, in various places.  Toys in corners and in the middle of floors.  Clothes...not exactly in the right spot.  An Amazon box, emptied and then dropped, randomly on the ground.  Coats taken off, but not hung up.  Backpacks dropped on a chair.  The list could go on...

It would be easy for me to blame it all on my kids.  A lot of it IS definitely their stuff.  But, truly a significant portion is mine.  And a wee-bit of my husband's.  (He is a bit of a neat freak - it drives me bonkers at times - but that's a whole other post.)

The STUFF is driving me crazy!

And, when the house gets to this point, it is time for the 10 Minute Sweep!

I wish I could take credit for the idea - but it's not mine.  I read it somewhere - Family Fun Magazine, perhaps?  Or maybe it was on a mommy blog, or on the Today Show....  I can not remember where I got the idea, but the 10 Minute Sweep is simple and brilliant!  And, the best thing is that it works!

The premise is simple.  I put the kitchen timer on 10 minutes - and the boys and I start in one room, and I hand them a piece of the STUFF and tell them what to do with it.  They have to quickly put it away and come back for the next item.  We continue until we finish one room and then move on to another room.  For ten minutes, we are continually picking up and putting the STUFF away.  When the bell rings at the end of the ten minutes, they have to finish what they were doing and then we are done.

It is amazing how much can be picked up and put away in just 10 minutes!

So today, after school and snacks, we did the 10 Minutes Sweep.

And, now I feel so much better!

Day 94 - Some people don't like me!

Guess What?
Some people don't like me!
Yep, <gasp!> it's true.
And, guess what else?
That's OK.
For the first time in my 42 years, the fact that some people don't like me feels, well, OK.
It doesn't make me smile.
I do not celebrate it.
I'm not happy about it.
And, at times, it does, still, hurt my ego.

But it isn't horrible.  And I no longer spend much time lamenting over it.

Because, in the end, when I like myself and am true to who I am, it doesn't really matter, if others don't like me.
And that, feels pretty good.

Day 93 - Looking and Searching

“Life can only be understood backwards;
but it must be lived forwards.”
― Søren Kierkegaard

I started this In Search of Me in Mommy blog on January 19, 2010.  I was looking and searching for "ME in the chaos of motherhood."  Since then, there are times that I have felt like I had found what I was searching for...  And that is a wonderful feeling!

But then, there are are other times, I am looking, and looking, and looking... and I still feel lost.  And that sucks!

I do understand that this "looking and searching" is a process.  And that there will be times when answers are crystal clear - and other times when there is a low-lying fog.

I guess I figured by now, almost two in half years later, "things" would be better - clearer... That I would "know" my path.

But, right now, I don't.

And so I have been thinking, that maybe, I need to stop looking and searching and just be.

Just be where I am at.
Just be in the fog.
Just be in the unknown.
Just be me, as I am, right now!

And, maybe "being" is just another piece of
my In Search of Me in Mommy journey.

Day 92 - Dare to be ourselves...

“We have to dare to be ourselves,
however frightening or strange that self may prove to be.”
― May Sarton
