So, for three weeks I am committed to exercising/moving 6 out of 7 days a week for at least 30 minutes!
I am just about half way through the challenge and I am happy to report that all is going well. But, I must admit it hasn't always been easy. Some days I have been busy and wasn't quite sure how I would fit it in. Other days, I procrastinated. And still other days I wasn't in the mood to exercise and I had to search for my motivation.
To combat these roadblocks, I have tried to have fun and be creative about making my commitment work...
One day, when I had a lot going on including needing to get to the grocery store, I decided to walk to the store instead of drive. By doing that, I felt like I was able to be productive and exercise at the same time.
Another day, when I was feeling unmotivated, I recruited my boys to join me. The three of us Wii Zumba'd in our family room and had a great time! It was amazing how much more motivated I was because Alex and Owen were right beside me getting their groove on.
On a sunny, but chilly day, Alex and I bundled up, and took, Mocha, our 90 pound chocolate lab, for a walk through the park. It was a perfect opportunity to spend some quality, one-on-one time chatting with Alex and hearing his stories.
And yesterday evening, after procrastinating all day, I pulled out the Wii Fit and tried out some "games" that I had never done before. I had a blast dodging large swinging boulders, jumping over rolling logs, and leaping from one platform to the next in the obstacle course. And, I hula hooped my way to a stronger core. It was fun...really fun! The BONUS is that it must have been a decent workout, because today I am sore!
Through this I am learning that if I am creative - I can make it work...even when I don't feel like it!
How do you creatively fit exercise into your life?
Your workout at the park sounds amazingly fun and fab! I love exercising outdoors. It's so much better than the stuffy, sweaty gym. I love how you talk about your dog, Mocha, and how you got in some special time with Alex as well. That's how a workout should be -- filled with physically challenging exercise with a little love and fun sprinkled in!
ReplyDeleteI'm a Crossfit enthusiast. A fierce and fast workout -- the Crossfit way -- can fit into just about anyone's schedule. Once you know how to do the workout, you can take it anywhere. I go to the Crossfit gym once in a while, just to cavort with other fitness peeps, but most of the time I get my workout in at home.
You just need a jump box (which my Dragonslayer made for me), a chin up bar, running shoes, and a few simple weights. It's amazing, but it's not for everyone because it's also brutal. I love it, though. I wouldn't be in the shape I'm in if it weren't for the fast and fierce workouts of Crossfit or the Paleo-nutrition that I follow as well.
